WASTE MANAGEMENT
Waste Management Customer Service

CURBSIDE SERVICES
https://www.vbgov.com/government/departments/public-works/pw-waste-management/Pages/curbside-services.aspx
Virginia Beach residents may request a curbside collection of bulky items.
  • A bulky item request form is not needed for the collection of yard debris
  • Please note that donation, reuse, or repurposing is encouraged before using disposal through this service.
  • The City of Virginia Beach Landfill and Resource Recovery Center, located at 1989 Jake Sears Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23464 and open 7:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Tuesday - Saturday,  is available to Virginia Beach residents to drop-off bulky items.
  • We encourage residents to use this service when multiple items have been gathered rather than calling for multiple pickups of single-items.
  • Bulky item requests may take 48-72 hours for a response.
  • Please DO NOT place items at the curb until a confirmation providing the collection date has been received.
  • Bulky items should be set out no earlier than 5:00 p.m. on the day before your confirmed collection day or 7:00 am the day of service
  • Bulky items must be placed just behind the curb line in front of your home.
  • Do not place in the street, on the sidewalk, or in any manner that will interfere with vehicular or pedestrian traffic or with solid waste collection service
  • Do not place within 3 feet of roll carts, mailbox, fence or wall, water meter, telephone connection box, parked cars, fire hydrant, utility pole, or traffic signs.
  • Do not place under power lines or low hanging tree limbs, in an alley, or in front of a vacant lot or business
  • Please mention if you have a Freon-containing appliance such as a refrigerator as they require special handling.
The following items will NOT be collected
  • Remodeling or Building Materials
  • Concrete
  • Carpet
  • Wood Pallets
  • Cabinets
  • Doors
  • Sinks
  • Toilets
  • Glass
  • Boats
  • Hazardous Waste

  • Tires
  • Vehicle Parts
  • Computer Towers

You do not need to put in a work order for yard debris collection. This collection is automatic.

This service is provided on your normal collection day and does not require a work order.  Residents may place yard debris at curbside for collection by the City as follows:
  • Limbs up to 4 feet long and 6 inches in diameter will be collected in a pile not to exceed 4 x 4 x 4 feet.
  • Two piles, generated from each house, will be collected on each collection day.
  • You may also dispose of smaller yard debris, such as grass and leaves (no dirt, rocks, mulch, or root balls) in up to 25 clear plastic bags, not more than 25 lbs. per bag.
  • Tree removal debris is not collected at the curbside. However, it can be collected through the yard debris container program, provided each piece is no larger than 6 inches in diameter.
Please note that any work done by private contractors must be disposed of by the contractor.

Residents are urged to place yard debris, as well as waste and recycle containers, outside of the drainage flow line (a few inches away from the curb) to keep the drainage flow line clear and avoid neighborhood flooding.
Learn about mulch mowing leaves and grass clippings instead of bagging and dragging them to the curb!

Yard Debris Container Program

  • For larger amounts of yard debris, roll-off containers are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is a fee for this service:  $40 for weekdays and $75 for weekends.
  • The containers measure 13 x 7 x 5 feet.
  • The container is only to be used for tree limbs less than 6 inches in diameter, leaves, shrubbery, and grass trimmings from the normal upkeep of the immediate perimeter of your occupied dwelling.
  • No clear plastic bags in the container.
  • The container is not intended for debris resulting from clearing of large tracts of land (greater than one-half to one acre), limbs larger than 6 inches in diameter, root balls, sod, hazardous waste, stumps, firewood, concrete, dirt, bricks, landscape timbers, pallets, compost, mulch, building materials, bulky items or debris from vacant lots or waterways. It is not to be used by contractors or loaded with mechanical equipment.
  • You may schedule the container for a day with AM or PM delivery available. However, trailers delivered on Friday will be picked up on Monday.
  • Someone at least 18 years old must sign for the trailer when delivered, but need not be home when it is picked up.
  • Please note that the Landfill does not accept tree removal debris over 6 inches in diameter.
Please call 385-4650 well in advance if you wish to schedule a container. This service is not available online.
